Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Facebook will change to Meta. He said the company's apps and online platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram, will not change. However, there is an obvious difference between the Facebook logo and the logo of the proposed company, the same as those of the other apps, unsurprisingly.
So when is Facebook changing its name to Meta?
In the V/R conference on Thursday 28 October 2021, Mark Zuckerberg revealed Facebook's new name to go in line with its virtual-reality vision for the future.
Meta is helping to build a 3D virtual reality environment where users can connect with other users in real time.
Ominously, Meta means 'dead' in Hebrew and many Hebrew speakers are questioning the name.
To reflect who we are and what we hope to build I am proud to announce that starting today (Thursday 28th Dec 2021) our company is now Meta.
Our mission remains the same it's still about bringing people together with our apps and their brands. They're not changing either and we are still the company that designs technology around people but now we have a new north star to help bring the metaverse to life.
So let's start by exploring what different kinds of metaverse experiences could feel like starting with the most important experience of all connecting with people
Imagine you put on your glasses or headset and you're instantly in your home space it has parts of your physical home recreated virtually. It has things that are only possible virtually and it has an incredibly inspiring view of whatever you find most beautiful.
